Agartala, 3rd June 2026: Tension erupted in the Rukhia area of Boxanagar yesterday late evening following allegations of an attack on construction workers engaged in piling work. According to claims made by the contractor and injured workers, at least four labourers were injured and taken to GB Hospital in Agartala for treatment.
The workers alleged that individuals linked to the local political leadership demanded a 15% payment to allow the work to continue. When the workers reportedly refused, they were allegedly assaulted with iron rods and sticks. The attackers also allegedly damaged a piling vehicle at the site.
The contractor, Gautam Pal, stated that after they began work in the area, they were pressured to pay a percentage of the project cost. He further alleged that refusal to comply led to the violent attack on his workers. He has lodged a complaint with the Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police against local MLA Tafazzal Hossain.
Local sources claimed that the situation created significant tension in the area. The complainant also alleged a lack of immediate police response at the scene, though official confirmation of police actions is yet to be released.
However, these claims remain allegations at this stage, and there has been no official statement confirming the sequence of events or identifying those responsible. Police investigation is expected to determine the facts and take appropriate legal action.
Authorities have not yet issued a detailed public response regarding the incident.
