Agartala, 20th July 2026:  Senior IPS officer G.S. Rao has been assigned the charge of Director General of Police (DGP), Tripura, following the untimely demise of DGP Anurag Dhankhar on Monday.

The General Administration (Personnel & Training) Department of the Tripura government issued an order stating that G.S. Rao, IPS (TR:1999), presently serving as Additional Director General of Police (AP), Tripura, will function as DGP (Head of Police Force) on an in-charge basis with immediate effect.

Rao, identified as the sixth senior-most officer among the state cadre IPS officers, will continue to hold the responsibility until further instructions are issued.
