Agartala, 21st April 2025: The annual Garia Puja, a symbol of culture and tradition is being celebrated with fervor across Tripura. This ancient tribal festival, traditionally observed for the well-being and prosperity of society, has evolved into a unifying event for people of various castes and sub-castes.
In the capital city of Agartala, clubs and organizations have come together to organize the festivities. At Advisor Chowmuhani, devotees gathered early in the morning to worship with devotion. The festival, which includes a vibrant fair, has drawn participants from tribal communities and beyond, showcasing its universal appeal.
Mayor Deepak Majumdar marked the occasion by distributing rice and pakhara to residents of Ward No. 19 under the Agartala Municipal Corporation. Reflecting on the festival’s growth, he remarked, “Garia Puja, once limited to specific areas, is now celebrated with enthusiasm everywhere—from cities to villages.”
Relatives are invited to partake in the celebrations, emphasizing the communal spirit of the event. The festival, dedicated to the deity Garia Baba, symbolizes hope, good health, and prosperity, and continues to be a cornerstone of Tripura’s cultural heritage.
