Agartala, 20th August 2026 : Police have made a significant breakthrough in the theft of a laptop from the GB Pant Hospital premises in Agartala, arresting an accused and recovering five additional mobile phones during a subsequent raid.
The theft came to light on August 17 following a complaint lodged with the NCC Police Station. Acting swiftly, police launched an investigation and detained a suspect after gathering leads during the inquiry.
According to police, interrogation of the accused provided crucial information, following which a team conducted a raid at a location identified during the investigation. The operation led to the recovery of five mobile phones believed to have been stolen. Police are currently verifying the ownership of the recovered devices.
One of the recovered mobile phones has reportedly been identified as belonging to a doctor residing at the PG Girls’ Hostel, further raising concerns over theft incidents within the hospital premises.
The operation was conducted by a police team led by Sub-Inspectors Sumon Das and Zainal Hossain. Their prompt action resulted in the arrest of the accused and recovery of the stolen articles.
NCC Police Station Officer-in-Charge Paritosh Das said that police immediately initiated an investigation after receiving the complaint regarding the stolen laptop. During the course of the probe, the accused was detained, and information obtained from him subsequently helped investigators recover the five mobile phones.
Police said the arrested accused will be produced before the court after completion of the necessary legal formalities. Investigators are also examining whether other persons were involved in the theft and are making efforts to recover additional stolen articles.
The recovery has brought some relief among doctors, staff and others associated with GB Hospital, while the police investigation remains underway to establish the full extent of the theft and identify any possible accomplices.
