Agartala, 6th November 2025:  In response to a growing blood shortage across government hospitals in the state, medical staff at GB Hospital’s blood bank has set a powerful example of solidarity and service.

Today, doctors, nurses, lab technicians, and other healthcare workers voluntarily donated blood to help replenish dwindling supplies and ensure life-saving support for patients in critical need.

The crisis has been particularly acute at GB Hospital and the state-run cancer hospital, where daily medical procedures—including surgeries, deliveries, and treatments for cancer and thalassemia—require substantial volumes of blood. However, a recent decline in public blood donations has left blood banks struggling to meet demand.

Recognizing the urgency, GB Hospital’s blood bank staff organized a special donation drive within the facility. According to hospital sources, the initiative yielded over 30 units of blood in a single day.

“Patients’ lives are often at risk due to blood shortages,” said one participating healthcare worker. “We felt it was our responsibility to step forward and contribute. We’ve also encouraged our colleagues’ families and friends to join this effort.”

The initiative has drawn heartfelt appreciation from patients and their families, many of whom praised the staff’s selfless action. “This kind of commitment from government employees sends a strong and positive message to society,” said one relative of a patient.
