Agartala, 28th January 2025:   A significant protest erupted at GB Hospital as around 600 safai karmis, who have not received their salaries for the past three months, surrounded the contractor’s manager demanding immediate payment of their outstanding wages.

Speaking to reporters today, a safai karmi stated, “We have been working at GB Hospital for a long time under outsourcing contractors. Our salaries have not been paid for three long months. When we met the contractor’s manager last December, he assured us that our outstanding money would be paid on December 18. But we haven’t received any payment yet.” He added, “When we contacted the contractor’s officials, they made excuses regarding the payment of our salaries. We are facing various problems because of this, and that’s why we have joined the protest demanding our outstanding salaries.”

Meanwhile, an official from the contractor’s company also speaking to reporters said, “The employees’ one-month salary was deposited in the bank yesterday. The outstanding salaries for December will be paid in a few days.” The official questioned, “Why did they join the protest even after being informed about this?”

The workers’ protest highlights their frustration and demand for timely payment, with the safai karmis calling for immediate action to resolve the issue of their unpaid salaries.
