GDC, Khumulwng marks 48th Kokborok Day with pride and tradition

Agartala, 19th January 2026 :  Government Degree College, Khumulwng commemorated the 48th Kokborok Day with vibrant celebrations, blending cultural pride and academic dignity. Organized by the Department of Kokborok, the event brought together faculty, students and guests in a spirited display of heritage.

The festivities began with a colorful rally from the college campus to Khumulwng Dukmali Hati, where staff and students marched in unison, singing Kokborok songs and chanting slogans that echoed their cultural identity.

The ceremony was graced by Dr. Biman Debbarma, Linguistic Officer at Tripura University attended as Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included Dr. Tulan Mochahary, Assistant Professor in the Department of Bodo at Lokanayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Assam; Ansai Daimary, faculty member of the Education Department at Udalguri College, Assam; and renowned musician Bikash Daimary from Udalguri District, Assam.

College leadership also joined the occasion, with Principal Dr. Bhupendra Debbarma, Assistant Professor of History Sri Pradip Debbarma, and Kokborok Department Head Rabindra Debbarma sharing the dais.

A key highlight was the release of Khumulwng, the college’s Kokborok magazine, featuring articles and poems that celebrate the richness of the language. The cultural program presented by students drew wide appreciation, showcasing traditional artistry and youthful enthusiasm.

In their addresses, the dignitaries underscored the significance of Kokborok Day, stressing the need to preserve, promote, and advance the language through collective efforts and academic initiatives.

The program was skillfully coordinated and anchored by Daniel Debbarma, Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Education. A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Pradip Debbarma, Assistant Professor of Political Science.

The celebration concluded with a communal feast, reinforcing the spirit of unity and tradition that defines Kokborok culture.
