GMP raises alarm over ADC’s financial crisis ahead of Puja

Date:

Agartala, 1st October 2026 :  The Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (GMP) has raised serious concerns over the financial condition of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging that employees and pensioners are facing hardship ahead of the Puja season.

GMP General Secretary Radhacharan Debbarma claimed that nearly 4,000 ADC employees, from Group D to Group A, are set to receive only half of their salary and allowances this month. He attributed the situation to what he described as prolonged financial mismanagement within the ADC.

According to Debbarma, hundreds of retired employees have been waiting for pension, gratuity and leave-salary dues since the 2022-23 financial year. He claimed that around 499 pensioners had not received pension or other retirement benefits for nearly one to one-and-a-half years, while more than 350 others were still awaiting gratuity and leave-salary payments. The total outstanding liability, he said, was around ₹193 crore.

Referring to a recent High Court order, Debbarma said the financial crisis had resulted in existing employees receiving only half their salaries until the outstanding dues of pensioners are cleared.

He also criticised the State Government for allegedly distancing itself from the issue, arguing that the ADC functions under the Tribal Welfare Department, the State Government’s nodal department for the council.

Debbarma demanded that ADC employees receive Puja bonuses and advances similar to state government employees. He also questioned why the ADC had not prepared its 2026-27 budget, despite six months of the financial year having passed.

The GMP leader further alleged irregularities in vehicle hiring by the ADC and said the organisation would disclose more details later.

He also highlighted delays in rural workers’ wages, claiming that payments for work undertaken during June-August remain pending in several areas. Debbarma urged the State Government and ADC administration to clear outstanding wages and launch fresh employment projects before Puja.

The allegations made by the GMP leader have not been independently verified.
