Agartala, 7th August 2026 : As part of the TRESP project deliverables, 25 beneficiaries from Goatery Producer Groups (PGs) and five project officials from Tripura visited the ICAR–Central Institute for Research on Goats (ICAR‑CIRG), Makhdoom, Farah, Mathura from 28–30 July 2026 for an intra‑state exposure visit. The programme — one of the project’s initiatives to strengthen livestock livelihoods — focused on modern, science‑backed goat farming practices.
Over three days, participants attended classroom lectures and hands‑on field demonstrations led by ICAR‑CIRG experts. Classroom sessions covered topics including identification of goat breeds found in India and Tripura; feed ingredients, nutritional requirements and feeding habits; scientific housing and management; advantages of scientific goat farming; mechanization and processing of fodder; and goat health management with emphasis on the role of Artificial Insemination.
Field demonstrations reinforced theoretical lessons with practical training on routine and emergency herd care. Participants observed and practiced vaccination, first aid, deworming, drenching, medicated bathing, hoof trimming, animal identification, brushing, seasonal housing management, sanitation, and body weight measurement. Reproductive management demonstrations included heat detection, estrus synchronization, pregnancy diagnosis and Artificial Insemination (AI). The group also took part in demonstrations on preparation and processing of goat milk products and value addition techniques for goat milk and meat.
The exposure visit significantly enhanced PG members’ skills and awareness of improved management, breeding, feeding, housing and disease control methods. The practical orientation aimed to help farmers adopt productivity‑boosting, cost‑effective techniques and explore value‑addition opportunities that can increase farm incomes.
This visit follows the successful completion of intra‑state exposure visits for 125 Piggery PG members to ICAR‑NRC on Pig, Rani, Assam, conducted earlier in five batches under the TRESP project.
At the conclusion of the programme, all PG participants received certificates of participation in recognition of their involvement and learning.
