Agartala, 13th December 2025:  A fresh incident of daring burglary has triggered panic across Udaipur city after a family was left devastated when thieves looted valuables worth nearly Rs 9.5 lakh in their absence.

The crime took place late last night in Ward No. 22, Jail Road area, at the residence of Bimal Acharya. According to reports, Acharya and his family had gone to Bishramganj to attend a social function at his sister’s house. Taking advantage of the empty home, a gang of burglars broke in through the kitchen’s back door.

Once inside, the miscreants ransacked furniture and smashed open cupboards before fleeing with gold ornaments worth around ₹8.5 lakh and ₹1 lakh in cash—savings that had been set aside for Acharya’s daughter’s wedding.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when Acharya’s nephew, Sourav Acharya, visited the house and noticed the back door wide open. On entering, he found the rooms in complete disarray and immediately informed the family. Bimal Acharya rushed back from Bishramganj, only to discover the shocking state of his home. A written complaint was later lodged at Radha Kishorepur police station.

Police reached the spot and began an investigation. However, the burglary has reignited public anger, with residents alleging that night patrols remain virtually inactive despite repeated thefts across the city.

Sources revealed that although a 12-member special team was formed under the district police superintendent’s directive to curb such crimes, locals claim most of the team’s personnel spend time at home instead of active surveillance.
