Agartala: November 14. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma inaugurated modern two-story fish-selling center in the Lalsingmura market of the Bishalgarh subdivision.Deputy Chief Minister was present as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed fish sales center on Monday.
Fisheries Minister Prem Kumar Reang was also present along with Sepahijala District President Supriya Das Dutta, Office Director Muslim Uddin, Charilam Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Rakhi Das Kar. Gram Pradhan Soma Debnath presided over the event. The guests inaugurated the Fish Market by unveiling the plaque and cutting the ribbon.
In his speech, Deputy Chief Minister said that the Department of Fisheries is very important. “If the production of fish increases, the income of the farmers increases. Likewise, the demand for fish will be fulfilled. There is a demand for fish in our state. We have to depend on other states to fulfil our needs. The money of the state goes out side in procuring fish. If fish production increases, the state will benefit more economically”, he said.
He further said that there is no loss in fish farming. There is no such case of fish not being sold and therefore, the government is giving more importance to fisheries. Besides, Minister of Fisheries Department Prem Kumar Reang said that the production of fish in the state has increased in four and a half years.“There are other deficiencies. Efforts are underway to fill the deficit. Ponds are being dug to farmers by MNREGA project and Fisheries Department. Most houses have ponds and they are being given fingerlings”, he said.Rs 1 crore 30 lakh rupees has been spent on the construction of this two-storey fish market.
