Agartala, 22nd June 2026: The government’s lack of attention toward the work culture in government offices has once again come under criticism, as many offices are allegedly operating at the employees’ convenience. Even after declaring Saturday and Sunday as official holidays, the government appears to be struggling to overcome the laziness of a large section of employees.
This failure has once again been highlighted at the Agricultural Seed Office near Kanchanmala Bazar in West Tripura district. Employees reportedly arrive at the office one and a half to two hours late without following proper schedules.
According to government directives, all government offices are required to operate from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. However, despite these instructions, a section of employees is not adhering to the rules and continues to report to work irregularly. A similar situation was observed at the Agricultural Seed Office near Kanchanmala Bazar.
There are only two staff members in this office—one BLW (Block Level Worker) and one female Group D employee. On Monday, neither of them was seen in the office until around 10:45 AM. Meanwhile, several local farmers were waiting for seeds and fertilizers but could not find any staff present.
Eventually, around 10:45 AM, the BLW arrived at the office on a motorcycle. When questioned by journalists, he claimed he had been on field duty. However, the farmers present at the spot were unconvinced by his explanation.
The female Group D employee also arrived much later. When questioned by reporters, she stated that she was on leave. Interestingly, when the BLW was asked about her absence, he seemed unaware and questioned whether she had actually taken leave.
These contradictory statements raised further doubts about their explanations. It became evident that both employees were attempting to justify their late arrival with inconsistent responses.
Although the government has introduced new working-hour guidelines, it appears that some employees are still not complying with them, and supervisory authorities have not yet taken strict action.
At the end of the month, such behavior among salaried government employees has shocked the public. Citizens are now questioning whether such government employees will ever improve their conduct.
