Agartala, 19th June 2023: Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Monday announced that his government would launch ‘Plastic Free Tripura’ with the aim of making the state free from plastic.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the “Melaghar Rath Yatra Mela & Utsav.”
“Our government has taken the initiative to beautify Neer Mahal, and I urge everyone to contribute to its preservation. Recently, Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, visited the site and expressed her disappointment upon finding garbage in and around Neer Mahal. She brought this matter to my attention, and I assured her that we would promptly address this issue. The government will soon launch the ‘Plastic Free Tripura’ movement, inspired by the success of the ‘Nesha Mukta Tripura’ campaign,” said the CM.
Additionally, the CM emphasized that the Ratha Yatra in Melaghar is not only renowned in Tripura but also attracts visitors from Bangladesh each year.
“Many people from Bangladesh come here annually to witness the Ratha Yatra in Melaghar. Our state is rich in art, culture, and tradition. Last month, I had the opportunity to visit tribal-dominated areas, and one cannot fully appreciate the beauty of their culture and traditions without experiencing their villages firsthand. We take great pride in such aspects,” stated the CM.
The CM further highlighted the significance of faith and spirituality, noting that even during the Prime Minister’s visits to different countries, he always emphasizes the importance of God in his speeches.
“We are gradually transitioning from atheism to embracing faith and spirituality. The people of Melaghar are dedicated to preserving their culture and traditions. We believe that divinity resides within each one of us, and it is our responsibility to maintain our cultural heritage for future generations,” added the CM.
