Agartala, 2nd August 2026: Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Sunday participated in the virtual inauguration programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’ at the Conference Hall of the Academic Building of Tripura University.
The programme was organised jointly by MY Bharat and Tripura University. Addressing the gathering, the Governor urged every citizen of Tripura to actively participate in the campaign, stating that it is not merely a government initiative but a mass movement aimed at building a drug-free society.
The Governor appealed to parents to educate their children about the harmful effects of drug abuse, teachers to guide students towards the right path, and community leaders to set examples through their actions. He also urged the youth to say “no” to drugs and encourage their peers to make the same commitment.
Highlighting the efforts of the Central Government, Governor Nallu said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several effective measures have been taken since 2014 to combat drug addiction. He informed that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, as the nodal ministry for reducing drug demand, has implemented the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), focusing on prevention, awareness generation, identification, counselling, treatment and rehabilitation of drug users.
He further mentioned that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), launched on August 15, 2020, is one of the major initiatives under NAPDDR. Initially implemented in 272 identified drug-prone districts, the programme has now been expanded across all districts of the country.
The Governor said the campaign is based on three major pillars — controlling the supply of narcotics through the Narcotics Control Bureau, creating awareness and conducting outreach programmes through the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, and providing treatment and rehabilitation services through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Emphasising Tripura’s vulnerability due to its geographical location and international border, Governor Nallu said the state remains sensitive to illegal drug trafficking. He warned that drug networks are targeting the youth, the most valuable asset of society, pushing them towards addiction and causing serious damage to their health, families and social life.
He stressed that a collective effort by the Central and State Governments, educational institutions, civil society organisations and citizens is essential to eradicate the menace of drugs from society.
During the programme, the Governor administered the pledge for a drug-free India to all participants.
Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Debabrata Das, Special Secretary of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department Tapan Kumar Das, West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Bishal Kumar, MY Bharat Tripura Director Mehboob Alam Laskar, MY Bharat volunteers, faculty members, students and other dignitaries were present at the event.
