Agartala, 19th September 2024: In a significant move towards enhancing the agricultural landscape of the North Eastern states, Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the Annual Zonal Workshop of Agricultural Science Centers (KVKs) at the College of Fisheries’ auditorium in Lembucherra on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu emphasized the pivotal role that KVKs play in the development of agricultural systems and the improvement of farmers’ quality of life. “KVKs are the real bridge between the laboratory and the land,” he stated. The Governor expressed optimism that the workshop would address various critical issues pertinent to the agricultural development of the region. He urged scientists and engineers from KVKs, ICAR, and the State Agriculture Department to collaborate in devising innovative solutions to the challenges posed by small landholdings in Tripura.
The event saw notable contributions from several distinguished speakers. Dr. RR Burman, ICAR Assistant Director General (AE), highlighted the importance of integrated efforts in agricultural research and extension. Dr. MM Adhikari, former Vice-Chancellor of BCKV West Bengal, and Dr. H Rahman, former Deputy Director General of ILRI, shared their insights on sustainable agricultural practices. Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of CAU Imphal, also addressed the audience, emphasizing the need for modern agricultural techniques.
Dr. AK Mahanti, Director of ICAR-ATARI, Zone-7, Umaiam Meghalaya, delivered the welcome speech, setting the tone for the workshop. Professor Arun Bhai Patel, Dean of the College of Fisheries CAU Lembucherra, extended a vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all participants.
In a symbolic gesture, Governor Nannu planted a tree on the college premises before the commencement of the program. Following this, he toured various facilities, including the Swimming Pool, Laboratory, Pabda Hatchery, Referral Museum, Barcode Museum, and Molecular Biology Laboratory. The Governor also inaugurated the exhibition cum technology showcase at the Silver Jubilee Lobby of Fishery College, where he interacted with representatives from different states.
The program, which aims to provide technical assistance to farmers, concluded with the release of mementos by the Governor and other dignitaries, marking a successful and insightful event dedicated to the advancement of agriculture in the region.
