Agartala, 23rd March 2026: The 150th anniversary celebrations of Vande Mataram, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, began today at the Nazrul Kalakshetra here. The week-long state-level programme will run from March 23 to 30.
Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the special phase of the celebrations, urging citizens to actively participate in the nationwide Vande Mataram commemorations. Principal Secretary Chaitanya Krishnamurthy, Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary P.K. Chakraborty, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
During the programme, families of freedom fighters were felicitated in recognition of their contributions. The Governor, along with other guests, paid floral tributes to Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay and martyrs of the independence movement—Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru.
The Government of India has planned year-long activities across four phases to mark the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. In Tripura, the celebrations will highlight the song’s historical and cultural significance, honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters, and strengthen local connections to the legacy of Vande Mataram.
