Govt is committed for protecting culture, customs of ethnic groups: CM

Agartala: November 12. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha today said that his government is committed and is responsible for protecting the unique culture, language and customs of all ethnic groups in the state.

“The development of its own language, script and culture is necessary for the survival of any community. Under no circumstances one should forget one’s culture. The current government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is responsible for protecting the unique culture, language and customs of all ethnic groups in the state”, said Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha while inaugurating the 3-day International Conference on Chakma Language, Script and Culture-2022 at Nazrul Kalakshetra today.

The conference was organized under the initiative of International Chakma Sahitya and Sudom Jada and with the support of Dhuduk Social Organization.

Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha also said that there are 19 ethnic groups in the state. “They also have many sub-tribes. Chakma Janajati society is one of them. This society has traditional uniqueness. They are currently ahead in education, culture. Unity in diversity is observed in Tripura with all. The central and state governments under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also taking a positive role in the development of language, culture of all ethnic groups”, Dr Saha said.

He said the people of Chakma Janajati community are mainly Buddhists and the ideals and principles of Lord Gautama Buddha are recognized all over the world. “To move forward with all people is the main mantra of humanity. People of all communities should move together with culture, religion, language”, said CM.On the occasion, Minister of Social Welfare and Social Education Department Santana Chakma said that besides loving one’s own language and culture, one should respect the language and culture of others.

“Any nation should not forget its own language and culture to progress. It is the responsibility of the people of the respective nations to protect him”, she said.Amitabh Chakma gave the welcome speech on the occasion, Mizoram State MLA Budhadhan Chakma, Tripura State Karbari Devyan Chakma etc was also present.
