Agartala, 22nd May 2025: As Tripura braces for the monsoon season, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury today led a high-level review meeting aimed at ensuring uninterrupted availability and stable pricing of essential commodities amid anticipated challenges.
Addressing the state’s vulnerability due to frequent road disruptions caused by heavy rains, Minister Chowdhury emphasized the importance of preemptive planning to safeguard the supply chain.
“Given the monsoon’s impact on road connectivity, we have implemented strategic measures to keep prices of essentials, including petroleum products and LPG cylinders, steady and affordable throughout the season,” he stated. The meeting focused on forestalling any artificial shortages or black marketing activities that could inflate prices during transport bottlenecks caused by adverse weather conditions. Minister Chowdhury stressed the joint responsibility shared by government officials and private stakeholders to maintain a smooth supply of goods and protect consumers from price exploitation during this critical period.
Key participants in the meeting included Special Secretary Debapriya Bardhan, Director Sumit Lodh, Sub-Divisional Magistrates from Sadar, Jirania, and Mohanpur, as well as representatives from the Food Corporation of India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), and multiple local market committees. In his concluding remarks, the minister called for sustained vigilance and cooperative efforts to ensure the people of Tripura continue to receive essential supplies without disruption or unfair price hikes throughout the monsoon.
