Agartala, 5th September 2025: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today announced that the state government is planning to establish a Women’s University to empower women in Tripura. He also stated that efforts are underway to reduce the gap in Dearness Allowance (DA) between state and Central government employees.
Dr. Saha made the remarks while addressing the 64th Teachers’ Day 2025 programme at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan.
“You may enter other professions for money, but teachers choose this path out of passion and responsibility. Taking charge of the future generation, you have embraced this noble profession. Teachers are like the roots of a tree, while students are the branches, fruits, and flowers that receive nourishment from them. It is because of teachers that the country progresses, as they lay the foundation through sacrifice,” said Dr. Saha.
He emphasized the dedication required in teaching, stating, “Teachers invest mental, physical, and emotional energy. They are inventors who instill knowledge and values, making students’ lives shine. Teachers are the backbone of a nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Education Policy has been implemented in Tripura, and our government is introducing new reforms and recruiting the best teachers through a transparent process.”
Highlighting the state government’s educational initiatives, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Education portfolio, said, “Three new government colleges have been opened. Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Atmanirbhar Yojana, female students are being provided scooters to encourage higher education. We have waived fees for girl students in government colleges, and we are working to establish a Women’s University to further empower them. Several universities have expressed interest in opening campuses here, as peace now prevails in the state. Our goal is to make Tripura an education hub. MBBS seats have been increased, along with the establishment of dental and nursing colleges.”
On the issue of employee benefits, Dr. Saha added, “Earlier, people had to join protest rallies for DA and DR. We have given 29%, bringing the total DA and DR to 32%. We aim to further reduce the gap with the Central government.”
During the event, Dr. Saha conferred the Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar Samman to Dr. Atul Debbarma, eminent educationist; the Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Samman to Samir Chakraborty, eminent social worker; and the Maharani Tulsibati Samman to Pranati Debbarma, Headmistress of D.C. Para Hemanta Smriti Vidyalaya.
