Govt works for progress of backward people: Bhagaban Das

Agartala, December 21, 2022: Scheduled Caste Welfare minister Bhagaban Chandra Das on Wednesday said that Dr BR Ambedkar struggled throughout his life for the development of the backward people of the society and bringing them to the light of education. In the direction shown by Dr. BR Ambedkar, the present government is working for the development of backward people.

While inaugurating the Dr BR Ambedkar Merit Award-2022 and one-time financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh in higher education at Agartala Town Hall on Wednesday, Das said that the government is working on a specific plan to improve the education of Scheduled Caste students and the socio-economic status of Scheduled Caste people in the state. An initiative has been taken to provide online special coaching in student residences to provide quality education.

On the occasion, Dr. BR Ambedkar Special Merit Award was given to 14 scheduled caste students of the state for their good results in secondary and higher secondary. Dr. BR Ambedkar Merit Award was given to 16 students from class VI to IX. Moreover, 5 students have been given one-time financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh for pursuing special courses in higher education. SC Welfare Minister handed over merit awards and certificates to the students. It may be noted that 3,999 students of sixth to ninth classes in the state have been given merit awards this year. 165 people have been given one-time financial assistance for pursuing higher education courses. Another 400 people in the state will be given this financial assistance this year.

Special Secretary of SC Welfare department Abhishek Chandra also spoke on the occasion. Director Santosh Das gave the welcome speech. Joint Director Subrata Majumder gave a speech of thanks. Additional Director of Higher Education department Nantu Ranjan Das and former Director of SC Welfare department Niranjan Barman were present.

The opening song was performed by the students of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ HS School.
