Agartala, 1st April 2024: The Director of Secondary Education in Tripura has issued a suspension order against Piyali Banerjee, a graduate teacher at Pallimangal High School, for breaching the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the Tripura Civil Services (Conduct) Rules of 1988. The order comes after Banerjee’s participation in a political meeting held at Muktadhara Auditorium on March 30 was deemed a violation of the established rules for government employees.
The Additional Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura had forwarded a complaint regarding Banerjee’s conduct, prompting an investigation by the District Education Officer of West Tripura. The inquiry confirmed Banerjee’s presence and active participation in the political event, which is in direct contravention of Rule 5 of the Tripura Civil Services (Conduct) Rules that restrict government employees from engaging in political activities.
As a result of these findings, the Director, exercising the authority granted under Rule 10 of the Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules of 1965, has placed Banerjee under immediate suspension. During the suspension period, Banerjee is mandated to remain at the headquarters, Pallimangal High School in Sadar, West Tripura, and is prohibited from leaving without prior authorization.
This action underscores the stringent enforcement of conduct rules for government employees, especially during the sensitive period governed by the Model Code of Conduct.
