Agartala, 17th May 2024:  The Government Railway Police (GRP) detained five individuals including four Bangladeshi nationals and an Indian tout at Agartala Railway Station earlier on Friday. The arrests were made following a tip-off about their unauthorized entry into Tripura.

The suspects were taken into custody and subsequently transported to the local police station for further questioning. During the interrogation, the individuals confessed to their illegal crossing into the Indian state.

The Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Riyad Hossain (22), Omar Hossain (18), Mohammad Alam Hossain (26), and Jahangir Alam (21). Accompanying them was Rafiqul Islam, a 51-year-old Indian national who is believed to have facilitated their entry.

The GRP is currently investigating the extent of this network and any potential links to larger smuggling operations. The incident has highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in managing the porous borders and preventing unlawful immigration.
