Agartala, 2nd May 2026: Continuous heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding in Ward No. 5 of Dhaliarkandi Gram Panchayat, leaving local farmers devastated as nearly 20–25 kani of ripe paddy fields were submerged just days before harvest.
Local sources informed that the rising water levels in nearby reservoirs quickly inundated low-lying areas, destroying golden paddy crops nurtured over the year. Farmers, who had invested labor and loans into cultivation, now face financial ruin.
“We worked hard all year, but before we could bring the crop home, everything was washed away. I don’t know how to feed my family now,” lamented one affected farmer. Many others echoed similar despair, noting that the loss has deepened their debt burden and pushed households into uncertainty.
Residents also alleged that government support was inadequate during crop cultivation and remains absent even after the disaster. No relief or compensation has yet reached the affected families, intensifying frustration in the community.
Farmers have demanded immediate assessment of damages and urgent compensation to prevent further deterioration of their livelihoods. Villagers warn that without swift intervention, the crisis could spiral into a long-term catastrophe for the agrarian community.
All eyes are now on the administration, as locals await concrete measures to address the disaster and provide relief.
