High Court’s DJ ban ignored during Kali Puja, police takes action after complaint

Agartala, 4th November 2024:   Despite the High Court’s ban on loud DJ playing, the prohibition was largely ignored during Kali Puja, unlike the strict enforcement seen during Durga Puja. Since last Saturday, several clubs and households were seen transporting idols across the city with loud DJs, defying the ban without facing any intervention from the police.

However, the situation escalated on Sunday night when a complaint was lodged at the West Police Station about DJ harassment. A car equipped with a loud DJ system was creating noise while returning from Shyama Maa idol immersion. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the vehicle and DJ machine in the Ramnagar area. The car, which was carrying a member of the Puja Committee along with the driver, was taken to the police station, and the DJ equipment was confiscated.

A police official stated, “A case has been registered against the accused Satyabrata Dey and Nani Gopal Dey. They will be sent to court tomorrow.” The incident highlights the police’s response to enforcing the ban following public complaints, although the initial enforcement appeared lax.
