Agartala, 13th December 2025:  Concerns over the misuse of social media platforms as unregulated “news outlets” have surfaced again after a homemaker from Gokulnagar lodged a police complaint against a Facebook page named Northeast 24 News.

According to the complaint filed at Bishalgarh police station, Susmita Acharyee alleged that the page published a report using her and her husband’s photograph without consent. The image was circulated widely online, linking them to a news item they had no connection with.

Her husband Diptenu Sen is a government employee and the couple maintains a peaceful family life with no disputes. However, following the post, they reportedly received a barrage of phone calls from yesterday evening onwards, causing distress and embarrassment.

Unable to cope with the situation, Acharyee approached Bishalgarh police this afternoon, seeking action against the page for unauthorized use of personal images and spreading misleading content.

The incident highlights growing concerns over individuals posing as journalists without credentials, often armed only with a mobile phone, a motorcycle, and a “press” sticker, leading to harassment of ordinary citizens.
