Agartala, 17th January 2025: In a tragic incident at Sutradhar Para of Lebachhra Village under Karbook Block, a housewife’s husband and in-laws have been accused of her murder. The deceased Ashtami Sutradhar (Mandal) had reportedly endured prolonged abuse at the hands of her husband Pintu Sutradhar and his family.
Ashtami’s father, Ganesh Mandal filed a case against the accused at Nutan Bazar Police Station leading to the arrest of Pintu Sutradhar. According to Ashtami’s elder brother, she had repeatedly sought refuge at her father’s house due to the abuse. However, each time, her husband would apologize and bring her back, only to resume the violence.
Late last night, Ashtami called her father, pleading for him to take her away, fearing for her life. Tragically, the next morning, her in-laws informed her family that she had committed suicide. Upon arriving at the scene, neither the police nor Ashtami’s family found her hanging. Instead, her body was found lying on the floor, and the in-laws could not specify where the noose had been hung.
Ganesh Mandal and his family have accused Pintu Sutradhar, along with his parents Haripada and Bina Sutradhar, of planning and executing Ashtami’s murder. “My sister called us in desperation, fearing for her life. Now, they claim she committed suicide, but the evidence suggests otherwise,” said Ashtami’s brother.
The police have arrested Pintu Sutradhar, but Ashtami’s family is demanding the arrest of Haripada and Bina Sutradhar as well. “Why are they not arresting the other accused? We need justice for my sister,” demanded Ashtami’s brother.
Nutan Bazar police station has assured that the remaining accused will be arrested following a thorough investigation. “We are committed to uncovering the truth. Whether it was a suicide or a planned murder will be revealed through proper investigation,” stated a police official.
