Agartala, 19th March 2025:   In a shocking incident, Tripura Police of Amtali Police Station have arrested a man for allegedly gang-raping his PwD wife along with his friends while intoxicated.

The accused, identified as Subrata Dey, son of Ranjit Dey from Jogendra Nagar in Agartala, was arrested on Tuesday night following a complaint filed by the victim’s father.

According to police sources, Subrata Dey had married a woman from Chaumuhani Bazar under Amtali police station and was living with his in-laws. His wife is reportedly 75 percent disabled.

On January 5, Subrata and several of his friends consumed alcohol at his in-laws’ residence. Under the influence of alcohol, they allegedly assaulted and gang-raped the disabled woman.

After enduring trauma for over two months, the victim’s father lodged a complaint on March 14 at Amtali police station, naming seven accused, including Subrata Dey. The police immediately registered a case, and Sub-Inspector Sushmita Debnath began an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, Amtali police arrested Subrata Dey on Tuesday night. However, the six other accused individuals are still absconding. Investigating officer Sushmita Debnath assured that efforts are being made to apprehend the remaining accused soon.

On Wednesday, the arrested accused was produced before the court, and police sought his remand for further interrogation. Officers believe that questioning him in custody could lead to the swift arrest of the other culprits involved.

Later in the day, SI Sushmita Debnath briefed journalists, providing detailed information about the case and emphasizing that justice will be ensured for the survivor.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding strict action against the accused.
