Agartala, 29th January 2024: A housewife from Baranarayan village in Jatrapur police station area of Tripura is fighting for her life after being brutally assaulted by her husband on Monday morning. The accused, Anjan Das, allegedly hit his wife, Poly Rani Banik, on the back of her head with a stick over some issue, leaving her bleeding and unconscious. He also inflicted injuries on different parts of her body.
The neighbours alerted the victim’s father, Khagendra Chandra Banik, who lives in Kathalia. He rushed to the spot and took his daughter to the Jatrapur police station in a bloody state. The police advised him to take her to the Kathalia Social Health Center, where the doctor referred her to the Agartala GB Hospital. She is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and her condition is said to be critical.
The victim’s father has lodged a complaint against the accused husband, who has been married to his daughter for five years. He claimed that his son-in-law used to abuse and beat his daughter regularly over family disputes and did not provide for her needs properly. The couple has a son, who is also a witness to the violence.
The police have registered a case against the accused and are investigating the matter. They are also trying to nab the accused, who is absconding after the incident. The police have assured that they will take strict action against the culprit and ensure justice for the victim.
