Agartala, 7th February 2024 : In a harrowing conclusion to a tragic case, the Fast Track Court of West District delivered its verdict on the murder of Anima Chakraborty, with her husband, Gautam Chakraborty, found guilty of the heinous crime. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000, in default of which he will serve an additional 6 months behind bars.
The chilling incident, which transpired on the night of May 8, 2020, shook the residents of the AD Nagar police station area. Gautam Chakraborty, the perpetrator, took the life of his wife in a brutal manner. Their son, Nayan Chakraborty, was fortunately absent from the household during the tragic event, returning home the following morning to a scene of horror, with his mother’s lifeless body discovered on their bed, drenched in blood.
Upon making the grisly discovery, Nayan promptly reported the incident to the authorities at AD Nagar police station, leading to the arrest of his father, who had fled the scene. Subsequently, the legal proceedings commenced, with Gautam Chakraborty facing charges in the fast track court of West District.
Throughout the trial, which saw the testimony of 18 witnesses, the prosecution presented a compelling case against the accused. After careful consideration of arguments from both sides, the presiding judge of the West District Fast Track Court unequivocally declared Gautam Chakraborty guilty on Tuesday.
Advocate Aurobindo Deb, representing the government, provided insight into the court’s decision, elucidating the details of the verdict to reporters. The sentencing, announced on Wednesday, serves as a testament to the justice system’s commitment to holding perpetrators of such egregious crimes accountable for their actions.
