Agartala, 2nd September 2025: The Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (IASE), Kunjaban organized an Interactive Session as part of the week-long celebration of Teachers’ Day on “The New Perspective in Teacher Education as envisaged in NEP-2020” on 29th August, 2025 at 11 a.m. at its campus hall. Prof. Dibyajyoti Mahanta, Chairperson, Eastern Regional Committee of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Shri Animesh Debbarma, Director of Higher Education, and Prof. Taraknath Pan attended as the Special Guests.
The invited dignitaries were warmly felicitated by the organizers, following which the programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp accompanied by the chanting of the prayer “Asato mā sadgamaya”, symbolizing the journey from darkness to light.
In her welcome address, Dr. Ratna Roy, Principal of IASE, traced the journey of the Institute with a renewed commitment to provide quality teacher education in Tripura. She also sought guidance and support from the Department of Higher Education and the NCTE for introducing reforms suggested under NEP-2020.
Animesh Debbarma, Director of Higher Education, in his address, highlighted the status of Teacher Education in the state. He requested the NCTE to consider relaxing some of the eligibility criteria so that more government institutions could introduce the Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of trained teachers.
Prof. Taraknath Pan, in his speech, emphasized the need to align the syllabus of the ITEP with the existing university curricula to ensure uniformity and academic balance.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Dibyajyoti Mahanta, Chairperson, ERC-NCTE, elaborated on the reforms initiated by the NCTE and urged all Teacher Education Institutions (TEls) in the state to prepare themselves for the timely introduction of these reforms. He assured that NCTE would extend every possible support to the institutions to help them implement the changes effectively.
The programme also included an interactive Q&A session, during which representatives from various TEls across Tripura raised pertinent queries about the reforms. The direct interaction with the Chairperson of ERC-NCTE provided them much-needed clarity and direction.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from representatives of all Teacher Education Institutions in the state, who expressed their satisfaction at being able to engage in such a meaningful dialogue on the future of teacher education.
