ICFAI holds unique ‘Rakhi’ celebration involving ‘Divyangjan’ children

Agartala, 8th August 2025:   The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation of the ICFAI University Tripura organized a heartwarming and inclusive unique ‘Rakhi’ Celebration to mark the spirit of love, protection, and togetherness.

The event was held on the university campus and it was organized by the active participation of differently-abled children’s (Divyang) who are also the regular beneficiaries of the Special Education Lab of the University which makes the event significantly a memorable and meaningful occasion.

The celebration aimed at fostering emotional bonding, promoting inclusiveness, and celebrating diversity. Divyangjan children prepared beautiful handmade rakhis with the support and guidance of students from the Department of Special Education & Rehabilitation and tied rakhis to all the Faculty members, Staff and students of the University. The rakhis were creatively made with waste materials available in the lab, under the supervision of faculty members.

Dr. Silali Banerjee, Principal of the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation, expressed that such events are essential to integrate inclusive practices into the social fabric of academic institutions and the University goal is to nurture a compassionate and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and celebrated: she said. She also added that Differently-abled children’s are receiving consistent support to enhance their overall development by the Students from both the Department of Special Education & Rehabilitation and the Department of Clinical Psychology of the University.

The departments are also working to develop social interaction and communication skills, improvements of memory and attention, building positive relationships, reducing stress and anxiety etc. of the Divyangjan individuals to promote them in to the main stream of social life.

This unique ‘Rakhi’ celebration was not just a celebration but a step toward building an inclusive society where everyone, including differently-abled individuals are embraced and empowered.
