Agartala, 4th November 2024: In a major enforcement operation on Monday, the Sadar Sub-Divisional Enforcement Team uncovered the illegal sale of Bangladeshi edible oil in Maharajganj Bazar here. Acting on a tip-off, the team raided the shop of local businessman Saikat Pal.
“Based on secret information, we learned that Bangladeshi edible oil was being sold illegally in Maharajganj,” stated Food Controller Pradeep Bhowmik. The Sadar sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) and the Food department officials coordinated the raid, during which they recovered a significant quantity of Bangladeshi edible oil. “The shop owner could not produce the necessary documents, so we have closed the shop for the time being and confiscated all related documents,” Bhowmik added.
The operation did not stop there. “We also raided a rice shop in the area and found several irregularities,” Bhowmik continued. This shop has also been temporarily shut down. “We will submit the findings to the sub-divisional administration, and appropriate legal action will follow,” he assured.
The operation has heightened awareness among the local residents about the ongoing issue of illegal product sales in their market. The authorities have pledged to continue their vigilance to ensure the integrity of the marketplace and uphold legal standards. “Our commitment is to protect consumers and maintain fairness in the market,” emphasized Bhowmik.
