Agartala, 2nd December 2025 : The Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the National Federation of New States (NFNS) have declared that they will stage a one-day sit-in demonstration at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, on 15 December 2025.
The protest seeks to push two major demands: the creation of a separate state and the passage of the 125th Constitution Amendment Bill, 2019 during the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
According to an IPFT press release, IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma stated that NFNS representatives from across the Northeastern states are expected to join the demonstration. From Tripura, the IPFT aims to send approximately 100 delegates.
The party reiterated its long-standing demand for a separate Tipraland State, covering areas under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTA-ADC). It will also urge the Central Government to approve the 125th Amendment Bill, which proposes upgrading the TTA-ADC to a Tripura Territorial Council (TTC), as recommended earlier by the Tripura Cabinet.
IPFT further appealed to all ADC MDCs and MLAs across the Northeast to write to Union HomMinister Amit Shah before the end of December, requesting that the Bill be tabled and passed during the Winter Session.
The party has instructed each of its divisions to send at least three delegates to the protest. Responsibility for arranging train tickets and other logistics has been assigned to the Treasurer of IPFT and the Treasurer of Youth IPFT, and all participants have been asked to coordinate wih them for travel plans.
