Agartala, 8th April 2026: A high-level delegation from the National People’s Party (NPP) of Meghalaya has landed in Tripura, signaling a significant regional political collaboration ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections scheduled for April 12, 2026.
The delegation, led by NPP Working President , included legislators Sanjay A. Sangma and Ian Botham Sangma, along with MDC Stevie M. Marak. They were warmly received at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport by Tipra Motha Party supporters and local party workers.
Speaking to the press, James Sangma framed the visit as part of a larger strategy to strengthen “One Northeast” cooperation, emphasizing that regional parties must work together to address shared socio-political challenges. The delegation expressed unequivocal support for Tipra Motha Party founder Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma—popularly known as Bubagra—whose party is contesting the TTAADC elections.
“We are committed to assisting Bubagra and the Tipra Motha Party in this crucial election. Our team will participate actively in campaign events and extend all possible support,” Sangma said.
Analysts see the move as a strategic alliance, reflecting NPP’s broader ambition to influence tribal politics in neighboring states by backing regional players. The delegation is set to participate in a series of rallies and public events across TTAADC areas in the coming days, highlighting a collaborative approach to regional political consolidation.
The upcoming TTAADC elections are widely viewed as a critical indicator of tribal political strength in Tripura, with Tipra Motha seeking to consolidate its influence and expand its grassroots presence.
