Janjati Morcha Hits Back at GMP, opposes Raj Bhavan Abhiyan

Agartala, 8th January 2025 :  The Janjati Morcha, the tribal wing of Tripura’s ruling BJP, has strongly criticized the Gana Mukti Parishad (GMP), the tribal arm of the CPIM, for making what it described as baseless allegations against the government regarding its work for the state’s indigenous people.

The BJP labeled GMP’s upcoming *Raj Bhawan Abhiyan*, scheduled for January 9, as a futile exercise. Speaking at a press conference, BJP Janjati Morcha Vice President and District Council Member Bidyut Debbarma dismissed the protest as irrelevant, asserting that the indigenous communities have witnessed unprecedented development since the BJP took office in 2018.

“Under the BJP government, the indigenous people have experienced progress like never before,” Debbarma stated. He cited key achievements, including the implementation of the *CM Rubber Mission, resolution of the 23-year-long Bru displacement issue, renaming **Agartala Airport* as Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, establishing Eklavya Model Residential Schools, declaring *Aspirational Blocks, celebrating **August 19* as the birth anniversary of Maharaja Bir Bikram, and setting up the *Tribal Research Institute*.

Additionally, he highlighted numerous central government initiatives for the upliftment of the Janajati community.

Debbarma also noted that several members of the tribal community had received the prestigious *Padma Shri awards* under the BJP’s governance. “These accomplishments are a testament to BJP’s commitment to the dignity and welfare of the Janajati people—something neither the CPIM nor Congress prioritized during their regimes,” he said.

Countering CPIM’s claims of stagnation, he stated, “What CPIM alleges—that there is no development, no MNREGA work, and no employment opportunities—is entirely false. We challenge them to identify any village still lacking electricity. If such a village exists, we promise to resolve the issue immediately. Their claims are baseless and aimed at misleading people.”

The BJP leader emphasized that the state government had also proposed increasing the powers of the *Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC)* to further empower indigenous communities.

He concluded by urging the opposition to recognize the transformative efforts made under BJP governance, stating that their protests reflect a desperate attempt to misguide the public.
