Seven foreign mercenaries, including two from the US and three who arrived from Ukraine, have been detained in Venezuela, President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday.
“Only today we detained seven foreign mercenaries, including two important mercenaries from the United States… Two Colombian killers have been apprehended in different parts of the country, and three mercenaries who came from Ukraine to bring violence to the country… They have come to carry out terrorist acts,” Maduro said during a meeting with Venezuelan police.
He also said that all the detained are “high profile” and have never before been caught in Venezuela and expressed confidence that they are going to admit their guilt in the coming hours.
Only from November to December, Venezuelan authorities have detained 125 foreign mercenaries from 25 countries who arrived in the country with the purpose of carrying out terrorist acts, the president added.
