Agartala, 5th July 2025: CPIM Politburo member and veteran tribal leader Jitendra Chaudhury launched a sharp attack on both the BJP and Tipra Motha during a rally held at Sonamura. The rally organized by the CPIM Sonamura Sub-Division Committee, was part of the party’s campaign to mobilize support for the nationwide general strike scheduled on July 9.
Addressing a large crowd at Rabindra Chaumuhani after a procession through the town, Chaudhury accused the BJP-led central government of promoting corporate interests at the cost of ordinary citizens.
“The Prime Minister boasts of economic progress abroad, but here in India, unemployment is rampant. Workers, farmers, and agricultural labourers are struggling to get two square meals a day. They call this period ‘Amrit Kaal’ — but this so-called ambrosial era is nothing but a bitter time for the common people. The government has silenced protest and crushed dissent in the name of development,” Chaudhury said.
He further said that the July 9 strike is a decisive step to challenge the anti-people policies of the BJP government and to uphold the rights of workers, farmers, and the poor.
“This strike will shake the government. It will have to face the consequences of betraying the people,” Chaudhury added.
In a political development during the meeting, 74 voters from 19 families reportedly left the BJP and joined the CPIM, expressing their discontent with the ruling party’s performance in the state. Chaudhury welcomed the new members by handing them the party flag.
“This is just the beginning. People are waking up to the truth,” he remarked.
CPIM State Committee member Suresh Das, MLA Shyamal Chakraborty, CPIM District Secretary Ratan Saha and leaders like Ahidur Rahman were also present.
