Joint Operation Leads to Arrest of Alleged JMB Offshoot Member in Tripura

Agartala, 30th December 2025: In a joint operation carried out by Tripura Police, Assam Police, and Central intelligence agencies, a 33-year-old man identified as Jagir Miah was apprehended on Tuesday morning.

Jagir Miah, son of Hanif Miah and a resident of Jaipur Village under West Police Station, was wanted in connection with STF Police Station Case No. 06/2025 dated December 28, 2025. The case has been registered under Sections 143, 147, 148, 149, 150, 152, and 113(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Sections 10, 13, 16, 38, 39, and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967.

According to investigators, Jagir Miah is an active member of an offshoot organisation known as “Imam Mahamude Kafila,” which is believed to be an ideological extension of the banned outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused was connected to the organisation through WhatsApp-based communication networks.

Security agencies stated that the arrest was made following sustained intelligence inputs and coordinated inter-state efforts. The accused has been taken into police custody for further interrogation and legal proceedings.

Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of his involvement and to identify other possible associates linked to the organisation.
