Agartala, 21st April 2025:  A protest meeting against the central government’s Waqf Amendment Act turned contentious yesterday at the open field near Bishalgarh Railway Station. Organized by the ‘Jana Adhikar Sangram Parishad’, the rally drew journalists from the Bishalgarh Press Club to report on the event. However, tensions escalated when Jewel Saha, a member of the Press Club faced harassment from a section of protesters. Attempts were made to snatch his mobile phone and he was obstructed from collecting news and recording footage.

The Bishalgarh Press Club took swift action approaching Bishalgarh Police Station today to demand justice. Journalist Jewel Saha filed a written complaint with OC Sanjit Sen, seeking accountability for the incident. The Press Club strongly condemned the behavior and called for immediate legal measures against those responsible.

In their statement, the Bishalgarh Press Club emphasized the importance of safeguarding journalistic freedom and urged all political and socially motivated organizations to respect the vital work of journalists. They reiterated their appeal to prevent any hindrance to news reporting in the future.
