Agartala, 20th July 2024: The upcoming three-tier panchayat elections is set to take place on August 8, have already ignited tensions in several northern areas of Kailashahar. The situation in these regions remains charged, prompting concerns from the police administration.
In response to the escalating tensions, a meeting was convened on Saturday afternoon at Irani Police Station. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Jayanta Karmakar led the meeting, which included all local political leaders. The primary agenda was to urge adherence to the model code of conduct and electoral regulations to ensure peace and harmony during the election period.
During the meeting, political leaders assured the administration of their commitment to maintaining order and following the campaign schedule. A final list of candidates was distributed to all parties present.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Karmakar emphasized the importance of preventing any violent incidents, warning that such events could negatively impact the panchayat elections and send a detrimental message about Kailashahar to the state and the nation. He noted that no untoward incidents had occurred during the nomination process and called for continued peace throughout the election period.
The police administration, while preparing for potential challenges, hopes to foster a peaceful electoral environment through cooperation from all political entities.
