Agartala, January 14, 2023: A ‘Milan Mela’ to strengthen the bond between tribal and non-tribal populace has started at Chakmaghat since 1998. During that time, people of the state were fed up with the insurgency activities. By eliminating that, the government took the ‘Milan Mela’ to a higher level in different places across the state.
Like other years, the 24th Poush Mela was held on the occasion of Makar Sankranti at the barrage premises in Chakmaghat area of Teliamura. MLA Atul Debbarma and Chief Whip Kalyani Roy inaugurated the event. Teliamura SDM Abhijit Chakraborty, Teliamura BDO Debapriya Das, Khowai Zilla Parishad Saha-Sabhadipati Harishankar Pal, Panchayat Association Chairman Jamuna Das and other prominent people were also present in this event.
Since 1998, the first ‘Poush Mela’ was held at the barrage premises of Khowai River at Chakmaghat by the then MDC Harimohan Debbarma with the aim of strengthening the unity among tribals and non-tribals.
This time, the 24th Poush Mela was held at the barrage premises of the Khowai River in Chakmaghat.
While addressing the gathering, MLA Dr Debbarma said “In this fair, pilgrims from different parts of the state come to the premises of the Khowai River barrage, especially people from different areas including Khowai and Dhalai districts, and Kailashahar sub-division have gathered to pray for the eternal peace of the souls of their ancestors.
On the other hand, Speaking at the event, MLA Kalyani Roy said, “People come to the Khowai River Barrage premises of Chakma Ghat to perform various rituals. However, she warned the security administration to ensure that no anti-social activities and intoxicants are allowed to flourish in the fair.
