Kamalpur woman battles for life after domestic abuse at GBP Hospital

Agartala, 27th April 2024:   A woman from the Kuchainala area of Kamalpur is battling for her life at GB Hospital following severe physical abuse by her intoxicated husband. The victim has been identified as Hemanti Das was reportedly subjected to regular domestic violence post her marriage 14 years back.

Hemanti Das was married to Krishna Malakar, also a resident of the Kuchainala area. According to sources, Malakar, under the influence of alcohol, frequently abused his wife physically.

The victim’s nephew, who chose to remain anonymous, revealed to the media that both Hemanti’s husband and mother-in-law were involved in the abuse. In a recent incident, Krishna Malakar allegedly locked Hemanti inside their house and assaulted her, resulting in serious injuries.

Following the assault, Hemanti was rushed to the Bimal Singh Memorial Hospital in Kamalpur. Given the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to GB Hospital. Medical professionals at Kamalpur Hospital disclosed that Hemanti has developed an ulcer in the upper part of her throat due to the assault.

Currently, Hemanti Das is in a critical condition, fighting for her life at GB Hospital. Meanwhile, the Kamalpur police have taken swift action and arrested the accused, Krishna Malakar. The case is under investigation.
