Kanchenjunga Express extension to Sabroom expected within 6 months: NFR GM Chetan Kumar Srivastava

Agartala, October 10, 2023: In a highly anticipated development, the extension of the Kanchenjunga Express to Sabroom in Tripura is on the horizon, with expectations that the train service could be operational within the next 6 months. This announcement was made by Chetan Kumar Srivastava, the General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, during his inspection of the Agartala-Sabroom railway line on Tuesday.

Accompanied by a delegation from the Railway Department, Srivastava embarked on a visit to Sabroom. Joining him on this excursion was Assistant Commandant Arun Panth of BSF No. 96 Battalion, along with officials from the Sabroom sub-divisional administration, including DCM Nakul Pal.

The day commenced with General Manager Chetan Kumar Srivastava’s arrival at Sabroom railway station at approximately 8:00 AM. During his visit, he thoroughly assessed the infrastructure at the station and marked the occasion by inaugurating the station’s running room.

Following this, Srivastava proceeded to the ICP (Integrated Checkpost) ground adjacent to the Bharat Bangla Maitri Setu in Sabroom, around 9:00 AM. There, Assistant Commandant Arun Panh provided detailed insights into the ongoing construction of the Bharat Bangla Maitri Setu and the ICP.

Addressing reporters later in the day, General Manager Srivastava reiterated the promising news that the Kanchenjunga Express is on track to reach Sabrum within the next 6 months. He emphasized that his visit aimed to assess the quality of rail line electrification work, road repairs, and overall infrastructure quality. Additionally, he shed light on the extension of the railway line to the under-construction Integrated Checkpost at Sabroom as part of the comprehensive inspection program.
