Agartala, 29th June 2026: A District & Sessions Court in Khowai, Tripura, on Monday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for the murder of his wife in a 2024 incident.
The court found 40-year-old Pradip Nath Chowdhury of Gourangatilla under Kalayanpur Police Station guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). He was awarded rigorous imprisonment for life along with a fine of ₹10,000. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment.
According to a press statement issued by Tripura Police, the case originated from Kalayanpur PS Case No. 06/2024 and Sessions Trial (T-1) 04/2025, registered under Sections 302, 109, and 34 of the IPC. The victim, Pratima Nath Chowdhury, had been married to the accused for around six years.
On April 6, 2024, she was allegedly attacked at their home with a wooden object, causing severe head injuries and fractures. She was first taken for medical care locally and later referred to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) & GBP Hospital, where she died during treatment.
Police said the investigation was conducted by Sub-Inspector Sourav Das of Kalayanpur Police Station, who later filed the charge sheet on August 31, 2024. After reviewing the evidence and trial proceedings, the court concluded the accused was guilty and delivered the sentence accordingly.
