Khowai Court sentences death penalty to convict in brutal murder of five persons including police officer

Agartala, November 23, 2022: The District & Sessions Judge of Khowai District on Wednesday convicted and sentenced an accused person namely Pradip Deb Roy (40) alias Kutti of Uttar Ramchandraghat, Sheoratalli, Puran Bazar under Khowai police station for murdering five persons including an inspector on November 26, 2021.

In connection with case number ST(T-1)09 of 2022, arising out of Khowai police station number 108/2021, dated November 27, 2021 under section 302, 307, 326, 333, 353 and 427 of IPC to suffer Rigorous Imprisonment for 10 years and to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 for the commission of offence punishable under 307 of IPC and the convict is sentenced to death for the commission of offence U/S 302 IPC subject to confirmation by the High Court of Tripura.

The convict is hereby ordered to pay compensation of Rs 5,000 each to the victims namely Mina Paul (Deb Roy), the wife of the convict and Karnadhir Das.

Pradip Deb Roy (accused) murdered his own daughters Aditi Deb Roy and Mandira Deb Roy, with an iron bar (Sabol) in his living room on the midnight of November 26, 2021. After that, the accused person killed his elder brother, namely Amalesh Deb Roy, with an iron rod. When Khowai police station officers arrived on the scene after receiving this information, the accused assaulted the on-duty officer, Inspector Satyajit Mallik, with an iron rod. As a result, he received grievous injuries to the head and also damaged the police vehicle. Thereafter, the accused also assaulted one Krishna Das (45) and his son Karnadhir Das, who were going from Ramchandraghat to Laltilla by an auto rickshaw. As a result, both Krishna Das and his son sustained severe bodily injuries.

All of the injured were taken to the Khowai District Hospital for treatment. During treatment, one injured person, Krishna Das expired at Khowai hospital. The injured police officer, namely Inspector Satyajit Mallik, was referred to GBP Hospital in Agartala for better treatment, but during treatment he succumbed to his injury at GBP Hospital.

It is pertinent to mention here that the case was initially investigated by SI L Darlong of Khowai Police Station. Thereafter, the case was investigated by Sri Rajib Sutradhar, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Khowai Both investigating officers thoroughly investigated the case, and the case was eventually charged, resulting in a conviction.
