Khowai Municipal Council push for clean drinking water project

Agartala, 7th June 2025:   Aiming to address longstanding concerns over drinking water quality, officials convened at the Khowai Municipal Council office today to advance plans for clean water access across Khowai. The meeting led by Khowai Municipal Council Chairman Debasish Nath Sharma was attended by State Chief Engineer Rajib Majumdar, Khowai SDM Charu Verma and a team of engineers and officials. 

As part of the initiative, engineers inspected various sites to facilitate water supply infrastructure, including overhead tanks in Khowai city. The estimated budget for these drinking water projects under the Council’s jurisdiction is approximately Rs 50 crore. One of the primary sites for implementation adjacent to Purnima School in Ward No. 1, Durganagar in Khowai was assessed by officials, with detailed measurements taken for an overhead tank. 

Persistent complaints regarding drinking water have long troubled residents of Khowai Pur. Recognizing the urgency, Chairman Sharma, a former DWS official actively engaged the state’s Chief Engineer repeatedly bringing attention to the issue through visits and presentations. Following multiple inspections, Today’s meeting marked a turning point, with officials examining the designated land and reinforcing their commitment to resolution. 

With measured steps now in motion, expectations are high that Khowai’s water woes may soon be a thing of the past. Residents anticipate swift implementation following the groundwork laid during this weekend’s discussion.
