Khowai police seized 822 Kgs of cannabis and arrested driver

Agartala, August 06, 2022: Khowai police achieved a great success in an anti-narcotics operation after seizing 822 kilograms of dry cannabis from a truck and arrested driver on Friday night.

It is reported that the Baijalbari police outpost sat for checking of vehicles at Baijalbari check point on Khowai road. Accordingly, police stopped a West Bengal bound truck bearing registration number WB11E-1109 on Friday night which was proceeding towards Khowai from Agartala. While searching the vehicle, police found a secret compartment in the truck. A total of 822 kilograms of cannabis in 97 packets were recovered from the secret room of the vehicle.

Khowai district’s Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty said, the market value of the recovered cannabis is about Rs 1 crore 23 lakh. The cannabis in the vehicle was seized. Police have registered an NDPS case against the arrested lorry driver Lakshi Charan Sinha (28), whose house is located in Nandan Nagar area of Damcherra. After interrogating the arrested person, the police came to know that the seized cannabis was being taken from Mohanpur to other states for smuggling. A comprehensive investigation has been launched by the police. The accused will be produced in the Khowai District and Sessions Court on Sunday.
