Agartala, 13th May 2025: Angered by the deteriorating state of the Khowai-Champahaour road, residents staged a road blockade today, disrupting traffic movement for about two hours. Protesters including students and daily commuters demanded immediate repairs, citing accidents and difficulties in traveling.
“The condition of the road has worsened over time, and the rains have made it even more hazardous,” said a local resident. “We have informed the authorities multiple times, but no action has been taken.”Students expressed their frustration over having to traverse the pothole-ridden road daily. “We go to school on this road every day. It’s full of deep craters, making it difficult and dangerous for us,” shared a student who participated in the blockade.
The blockade caused traffic disruption in both directions, prompting intervention from senior administrative officials. “We understand the concerns of the people. Necessary steps will be taken to ensure the road is repaired at the earliest,” assured an official after discussing the matter with the protesters.Following this assurance, the villagers withdrew the blockade, hoping that their long-standing demand for a safe and functional road will finally be met.
