Khowai Zilla Parishad holds meeting to create Lakhpati Didis’

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 5th February 2024 :   A meeting was held on Monday at the conference hall of Khowai Zilla Parishad to discuss the creation of Lakhpati Didis’, a scheme to empower women through self-help groups and village organizations. The meeting was chaired by Sabhadipati Joydeb Debbarma and attended by various leaders, including Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly Kalyani Roy, and Saha-Sabhadipati of Zilla Parishad Harishankar Pal.

The meeting was organized by the Khowai District ‘Shakti Bandhana’ Committee, which oversees nine cluster-level federations (CLFs) in the district. Each CLF has five members, making a total of 45 participants in the seminar. The CLFs are responsible for managing more than 56,000 self-help groups (SHGs) in the district, which are the main beneficiaries of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ scheme.

The scheme, which has been launched by the Central and State Governments, aims to make every woman in the district a lakhpati (a person who earns at least one lakh rupees per year) by providing them with various facilities and opportunities. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formed committees at different levels to implement the scheme and coordinate with the CLFs, CSPs, CRPs, and SHGs. The scheme also involves the Jai scheme, which provides government-aided centers and state TRLMs and bank loans to the poor families of the village. The scheme hopes to enable the women to start small businesses and industries and become self-reliant.

The discussion was led by Sabhadipati Joydeb Debbarma, District Convener Samir Kumar Das, Saha-Sabhadipati Harishankar Pal, and Chief Whip of Tripura Legislative Assembly Kalyani Roy.

They urged the participants to work hard and spread awareness about the scheme among the women of the district. They also praised the efforts of the CLFs and SHGs in improving the socio-economic condition of the district. They expressed their confidence that the scheme would be a success and create many Lakhpati Didis in the district.
