Kiran Gitte reviews healthcare services in North, Unakoti; Pushes for Trauma Centre and measles control measures

Agartala, 8th  June 2026:   State Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte conducted an extensive review of healthcare facilities in North Tripura and Unakoti districts on June 6, focusing on strengthening medical infrastructure, improving patient services, and addressing public health challenges.

During his visit to Dharmanagar District Hospital in North Tripura, the Health Secretary inspected various departments and reviewed patient care services, medical management, and healthcare infrastructure. He stressed the need for the early operationalisation of the hospital’s trauma centre and directed officials to take necessary steps to make it functional at the earliest.

The visit was attended by senior health officials, including Director of Health Services Dr. Debasree Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine Dr. Anjan Das, North Tripura District Magistrate Chandni Chandran, IAS, and other district health authorities.

Speaking during the inspection, Gitte reiterated the state government’s commitment to delivering advanced, accessible, and quality healthcare services to people at their doorsteps. He urged healthcare personnel to work with dedication and coordination to achieve this objective.

The Secretary also outlined several proposed initiatives for North Tripura, including the establishment of a sub-divisional hospital in Dharmanagar, upgradation of existing health infrastructure, full operationalisation of the trauma centre, introduction of a cardiac care unit, and expansion of specialised medical services, including a day-care centre for cancer patients.

Officials described the surprise inspection as a significant step towards assessing the overall functioning of Dharmanagar District Hospital and enhancing public confidence in healthcare services.

Later, Gitte visited the Irani Primary Health Centre in Unakoti district to review the measles outbreak situation and the preventive measures being undertaken. He directed officials to intensify vaccination drives, strengthen surveillance systems, and increase public awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of the disease.

Meanwhile, Director of Health Services Dr. Debasree Debbarma and Deputy Director Dr. Sankha Subhra Debnath visited Khowai District Hospital, where they assessed healthcare services and interacted with patients to gather feedback on medical facilities.
